What dreadful hot weather we have! It keeps one in a continual state of inelegance - Jane Austen

This, from Jane Austen to her sister Cassandra and written some 200 years ago, perfectly sums up the weather in London today. Like Dorothea Mackellar, I do love a sunburnt country... just didn't expect it to be England! Haven't been to Jane Austen country yet, but here are the normally lush and green lawns of Christ Church College, Oxford - where the only greenery to be found is in the lilies in the pond!

Spent last week in the 17th century, studying Samuel Pepys. Moved on now of course, to 1813 and What Kitty Did Next, which is out in the UK now Go, Kitty!
